Jazzy B – Londono Patola Reloaded

When Jazzy B announced the first single from Folk N Funky 2 would be Londono Patola Reloaded everyone began to speculate whether it was a remake or a sequel or something entirely different. Having listened to the track for a while now I would most likely say this is a great throwback track. From the beginning 5 seconds you can hear elements of the original sound that Jazzy B and Sukshinder Shinda made famous in the 90s. Londono Patola Reloaded is a fantastic track. I have to say Jazzy B’s vocals sound on point, and Sukshinder Shinda manages to recapture that iconic 90’s signature sound. It is going to be always compared to the original because of the name and the chorus.

It cannot equal the original as that has to go down as one of the all time classic tracks. However Londono Patola Reloaded is a very great track in itself. It’s more of a celebration; making several references to the original both in the lyrics and the fantastic nostalgic music video. Folk N Funky is out soon; Naag The Third is scheduled to be released next. If this is anything to go by then Naag The Third and Folk N Funky 2 is going to be an incredible album. Jazzy B released Londono Patola Reloaded and whilst its not going to compete with the original, as a standalone track, it is by far the modern day anthem. Check out what has to be the video of the year so far below now:

Jet Karra ft Surinder Rattan & Desi Ma – Kehri Kuri

Jet Karra teamed up with DJ Surinder Rattan to release the track Kehri Kuri featuring Desi Ma. Honestly this has got to be one of the freshest and unique tracks i’ve heard in a while. It’s got elements of the old UK Bhangra music style. Jet Karra has got a very unique and distinct vocal; he also released an EP a few years ago. Everything about the track seemed to fit well and work; i loved Desi Ma’s parts. It gave it that urban element, DJ Surinder Rattan absolutely smashed it with the production and Jet Karra delivered vocally. The lyrics were also very UK Bhangra-like. Watch the video below:

Lyrics for this particular track were written by Yuvraj Sandhu. Red Suit is a nice and catchy track; well produced by JSL. The track was released via White Hill Music. Production by Desi Routz is nice and energetic as you’d expect from the duo. Having already released three incredible tracks Sunanda is all set to release her debut album soon. This was a fantastic track by Sunanda; her vocals are so refreshing and unique. Check out the video now:

Gurj Sidhu ft Kaos Productions – Deep Obsession

Gurj Sidhu teamed up with Kaos Productions to release his new single ‘Deep Obsession’. Now when you think of Gurj Sidhu you think of raw folk music. His vocals have a very distinct folk tone and his singing style suits those types of melodies and songs. Deep Obsession has all of that raw folk element in the vocals. The track itself is a DnB track. If you thought Punjabi music was predictable then this just flipped the switch on that assumption. This was a great swerve and production by Kaos Productions was very cool; loved the freshness. It is a case of raw folk meeting DnB and it works. It paid off for the guys to do something different. Whilst i would have liked to see a proper desi beat on this i am glad they didn’t go in that direction. Sound is refreshing to hear and it only makes me want to hear the whole album even more now. Check out the video below now:

Lakhwinder Wadali ft Jeeti – Yaad Teri

Lakhwinder Wadali released his new track titled Yaad Teri alongside Jeeti. Jeeti has not released much music as of late however he returned in January for his first release of the year. Lakhwinder Wadali is a phenomenal singer and the collaboration was something special. Yaad Teri is full of great lyrics, musical pieces and melodies. The video is also very well produced and directed, check it out below:

This is a straight up UK track; everything about this shouts UK. DJ Harvey provides a great music back-drop alongside the familiar vocals of H Dhami. The female vocals throughout the track really added to the overall vibe as well. Check out the video below now:

Gurj Sidhu ft Kaos Productions – Yaad Kar

Gurj Sidhu has done it again. After releasing a plethora of chart topping hits, he finished 2017 off with a bang. Yaad Kar was produced by one of our favourite producers Kaos Productions; who have had a great year themselves. I like the direction of the track; it’s something different than what you would normally expect from Gurj and it works out. The Dark MC ft T-Minder – Nachdi De Nachna

The Dark MC returned to the music scene with his latest track Nachdi De Nachna featuring the highly talented T-Minder. Nachdi De Nachna is a superb track; it’s got a summertime vibe and just sounds great on the sound system. The Dark MC provides great and elegant production; it’s not filled with unnecessary samples etc. T-Minder sounds great as always; looking forward to hearing more music from him in the future. DJ Dips ft Miss Pooja – Pasand

DJ Dips and Miss Pooja collaborated once again with the track Pasand. Miss Pooja absolutely smashes the vocals on the track as always. The production by DJ Dips is really good; I love the different music pieces throughout the track. Lyrics were written by Happy Raikoti. Overall this is a great number from the duo. Miss Pooja’s vocals are as elegant as ever and the production is equally as crisp. Watch Pasand below:

Garry Sandhu ft Jasmine Sandlas – Laddu

It’s been a while since we’ve heard a Bhangra song from both Jasmine Sandlas and Garry Sandhu. They both however delivered with Laddu. The track was produced by Gold Boy who provides an energetic backdrop. The melody and flow has that old-style feel to it. Laddu is a really catchy track and whilst watching the video you cannot help but bust out some Bhangra moves as well. Hopefully this is just the first of many songs between the two as the pairing works really well. Watch Laddu below:

RaOol ft Jaz Dhami – Desi Girls Do It Better

Desi Girls Do It Better is our next pick by RaOol and it features Jaz Dhami. Desi Girls really Do It Better; Jaz Dhami and Raool absolutely destroyed it on the beat. It’s basically a track the big-ups Desi girls and how compared to everyone else they are in a level of their own. Raool’s rap is on point throughout the track. Overall the RnB track just works; great hard hitting production, good lyrics and the delivery by both Jaz and Raool is untouchable. Check out the video below:

Mona Singh ft Jatinder Shah – Koka Silver Da

Mona Singh made her highly anticipated and welcomed return to the music scene with the new track Koka Silver Da. It was great to hear her back; she has one of the best UK vocals i’ve heard. Being the daughter of legendary singer Channi from the world-famous band Alaap, you would expect nothing less. I like the word play between English and Punjabi, it works well on the track. Production was done by Jatinder Shah who provides a fitting backdrop which compliments Mona’s vocals. Hopefully this is just the first of many as a Mona Singh album is long overdue. Check out the video below:

Happy Raikoti – Mutiyaar

Mutiyaar is a superb track by Happy Raikoti. Lyrics were written by Happy Raikoti himself. The track is very catchy and I like the composition. Production was by Laddi Gill. Gippy Grewal ft B bohemia – Car Nachdi

Gippy Grewal teamed up with Bohemia for his latest release – Car Nachdi. Lyrics were written by Jaani with the production being done by B Praak. This is just a really catchy track; one that i’ve had on repeat for a while now. Bohemia’s rap was the highlight for me though; slick and on point. The track was released via the T-Series record label. Watch the video below which featured Shivani-Bhagwan:

Renee ft Vee – Jahan

Renee released her new single with Vee titled Jahan. The song was written and composed By Renee, Vee & Ay Sam. Vee produces a fresh and impactful track. Renee’s vocals on this one are impeccable; such a clear and enticing vocal. The lyrics and melody are really catchy, making this one amazing track. This track has been on repeat for quite some time now and you can definitely see why once you click play. The track was released via Moviebox Records. Check out the video below now:

Jassi Sidhu ft DJ K Square – Haa Kurvarkeh

Jassi Sidhu released his new single alongside DJ K Square titled Haa Kurvakeh. Lyrics were written by Mehroze. Weeks and even months prior Jassi touted this track as a return of ‘THAT’ sound. There was a lot of speculation as to what ‘that’ sound was exactly. However after hearing the full track, it was plain to see that the sound he was referring to was ‘the Jassi Sidhu’ sound. A sound that circulated for the better half of the last decade and span through four albums. DJ K Square does a fantastic job in capturing that iconic sound whilst also adding his unique take on it. The Kuldeep Manak bit towards the end was surprising and a very nice touch. We’ve always said Jassi Sidhu should release another album; the industry can always have some more Jassi Sidhu, but if no album is scheduled (and speaking to him, there isn’t) then we can at least be satisfied with a couple of singles here and there. Check out the video below now:

Gurdas Maan – Punjab

Gurdas Maan released Punjab alongside Jatinder Shah. The track is a reminder of the situation in Panjab at the moment and how it has been affected by things such as drugs, violence, corruption, alcohol etc. Whilst this is not a new initiative, many other artists have covered this topic, it is great to see Gurdas Maan highlight this as only he can do. The track is very striking, both with its descriptive lyrics and emotional video. Check out the video below now:

Kulwinder Billa ft Dr Zeus – Angreji Wali Madam

Kulwinder teamed up with Dr Zeus for Angreji Wali Madam which also featured Shipra Goyal. The track has the trademark Dr Zeus signature sound. Lyrics were written by Shivjot. Overall this is a cool duet, nice composition and easy to understand and quirky lyrics. Check out the video now featuring Wamiqa Gabbi:

Gurj Sidhu – Sentimental Value (Album)

The album was produced by some of the industry’s best in Tru Skool, Aman Hayer, Kaos Productions, Tigerstyle, Atul Sharma + more. The album came in two formats, a digital copy which featured 11 brand new tracks and a CD copy which included the previous singles Gurj Sidhu had released before. Sentimental Value is an album that can be summed up in one word – DESI! It features all kinds of styles and sounds. One thing that surprised me the most was the track titled – The Love Song. It showed an entirely different side to Gurj Sidhu and his vocal ability. Kaos Productions delivered a fantastic music backdrop. Whats even more unique and special about this album is the backstory behind it. Gurj Sidhu mentioned he had started the album when he was 14/15 and even managed to get a duet with Miss Pooja at that age.

However it was the 10+ years of struggle, perseverance and dedication through which Gurj Sidhu not only grew as a vocalist but as an artist. And the album / songs reflect that; you can see how much effort was put into each of the songs. Some of the songs that instantly stood out at first listen were The Love Song, Hounsla, KK, Deep Obsession, Goriyeh, Backyard and Mirza Flashback. Click here to check out the album review!
Check out the video to Deep Obsession below now:

Jazzy B – Naag The Third

Jazzy B doubled up in Feb with back to back releases from the new album Folk N Funky 2. This time he released Naag The Third. He completed the trilogy with the Music Man Sukshinder Shinda. The thing with sequels or other parts is that they are always going to be compared to the original and the ones before it. Naag 1 was a complete anthem, in all aspects of the word. It was literally a track that took the industry by storm when it was released. Jazzy B followed that up with The Music Machine Popsy for Naag 2. That was a great track that built on the foundations the original had laid out but also added a fresh and unique touch to it. Naag The Third is a sort of mix between the two. It is just so great to hear that classic Jazzy B sound again. This is a great track and has only made everyone eagerly anticipate Folk N Funky 2 even more. Check out the video below:

Lakhwinder Wadali – Tera Ki Lagda

Tera Ki Lagda was produced by Gurmeet Singh and released via T-Series Records. This is a fantastic track, sweet lyrics and a nice melody. I really like Lakhwinder’s tone of voice and it goes really well with the music in this track. Check out the video below; produced by Parmod Sharma Rana:

Masterclass ft Master Saleem & HMC – Ajj Nachna

This track has an early 00s UK Bhangra vibe going on and I am really feeling it. Master Saleem is an exceptionally diverse vocalist and can nail both slow romantic numbers as well as straight up bangers. Lyrics were written by Baldev Mastana. Production by Masterclass is elegant and straight to the point; no unnecessary samples or additions. HMC makes a special appearance and adds that old school UK Bhangra sound. Overall it’s a very cool track; I cannot stop putting this on repeat. Check out the video below; directed by Sai Smith:

  1. Some hit tracks released this year. A lot from the UK, unlike that repetitive stuff coming out of India
